Banded Swan

Banded Tundra Swan
Tundra Swan, Montana. Canon 7d 500mm f4IS,1.4tc ISO400 f8 1/2000

This was a pretty interesting find last week. I photographed this banded Tundra Swan here in the Helena Valley and curious to it’s whereabouts I contacted Craig Ely who works for the Alaska Science Center in Anchorage, Alaska. After giving him the number, the next day he reported that this particular Swan was banded in July 2011 at Izembek National Wildlife Refuge located in Cold Bay Alaska. He noted that my find was interesting as the swans from this location do not usually migrate south. Pretty Cool.
