Fall in Glacier National Park

Glacier – Images by Jason Savage
Just returned from a quick trip to the east side of Glacier National Park. Things were looking pretty awesome up there right now with the fall colors in full swing. Aspens were looking great with some nice colors around St. Mary and Many Glacier.

Smoke however is still hanging in the air which made landscape photography a bit of a pain. It doesn’t seem like any area of Montana is exempt from the smoke this summer with a ton of fires out west pumping smoke into the state.

Aside from the difficulties with landscapes, wildlife was very active and had some great bear watching up in the Many Glacier area. Right now the bears are very active taking advantage of the abundant berry crops in the lower elevations. Had some great Grizzly watching!

Fall colors should be at their peak by this next week on the east side of the park, but it will be hard to say how things will progress with the crazy temps we’ve been having. It’s been so warm up in the park, especially this time of year. This weekend it was nearly 80 degrees! Certainly unusual for late September.

I should have some more fall images to share soon as I will be traveling to the Beartooth Mountains and Yellowstone over the next couple of weeks. As for now, better get out there and enjoy those fall colors!
