Here’s a shot from my first outing with Fuji’s rangefinder style mirrorless camera, the X-Pro2. I’m super excited to try out this new system and will be posting a review after I finish putting it through its paces. Being a longtime Canon shooter, I keep dipping my toes in the mirrorless waters to see if I can finally be lured into lightening my load. We’ll soon see.
First impressions, very good so far…
Jason,
I (like you were) am heavily invested in Canon bodies and glass. I am intrigued by the mirrorless move and also tempted to dip my toes in. I am considering a Canon EOS M5 with EF adapter to use my existing glass. Have you any experience with this approach or did you just make the move to Fuji all-in? I purchased a 5D Mark IV after the Bitterroot workshop last October and really find it to my liking. But the draw to mirrorless is undeniable. I just have a hard time with the cost of a full conversion to a new brand.
Thoughts?
Hi Jim, like you, as was intrigued as well. A few years back I dabbled in mirrorless, but was still heavily invested in my Canon system. Things have moved forward very quickly with mirrorless quality and capability. The writing is on the wall now and mirrorless will certainly be the future in still cameras. I would advise against the M5, Canon I don’t think is there yet with their mirrorless systems compared to Fuji,Sony, Olympus or Panasonic. Both Nikon and Canon have really underestimated the mirrorless technology and other companies are now leading the way. I switched all in to Fuji and don’t regret it one bit. The advantages of less weight, EVF technology and incredible lens designs make it a very fulfilling move. Feel free to drop me an email if you have more questions on this.
Looking forward to seeing a further post with your new camera. I’ve been shooting with 2 xt1 for a few years now, from Nikon. Mirrorless has improved a bunch in the last few years. Might be picking up that xpro2 shortly and excited to try it out as it is newer and slightly different to the xt1.
If I do get it I’ll have to post a blog post as well once I’ve taken it out a few times. Happy shooting!
Thanks Tom, you’ll have to let me know your thoughts if you move over to the Xpro2, it’s a phenomenal camera. I shot with both the Xt2 and Xpro2 and both are amazing, I just preferred the ergonomics of the Xpro2 for my style of shooting. I’m looking forward to completing my reviews of both the XPro2 and the GFX 50s and my thoughts on moving from DSLRs to Mirrorless.
