Well, I’ve finally made it back from Glacier and it’s nice to be off the road for a little bit. Had a great trip up this last week…
I was working with the Mentor Series workshops that Popular Photography Magazine puts on and this year it was based out of the east side of Glacier National Park. We had a great week and the Park was looking the best it has in years.
On Saturday we stopped over at the Pow-Wow in Browning for the North American Indian Days celebration and took in all the colors and sights it has to offer. In addition to the dancing we managed to catch some of the parade that heads through town and also saw a little of the Rodeo.
If you haven’t been, I definitely would suggest making a trip up next year. The dancing and colorful dress is unbelievable.
Our last day we spent in the Many Glacier area and took a hike back into Grinnel Glacier. Awesome hike and I think no matter what time of the day you venture there, the view and feel of the place is amazing.
On our way up, me being the very attentive person that I am, managed to set my tripod down and not realize it until part way up the trail. Needless to say when I returned it was nowhere to be found.
Luckily it was insured, but I was still disappointed. After lugging that thing around for these last few years, I was really attached to it. I guess it will teach me not to do that again!
Now I am back in Helena editing photos like crazy and nursing a broken foot. Ironically after all the hiking we did in Glacier, I managed to break my foot coming down Mt Helena here in town last night. I was totally bummed with it still being the middle of Summer. I suppose on the positive side I can finally get caught up on all the editing and things in the office that need to be done.
Who knows, I may even get around to posting some new photo tutorials and regular postings:)
Kids or no kids? I’ll offer a kid-oriented idea for a day trip. My son’s kindergarten class took the train from Olympia to Portland, hoeppd a short city bus to a Max station which took them to the front door of the Portland Zoo. We got to the zoo in time for lunch, spent four hours or so at the zoo, took the Max and bus back to the train station where we ate dinner at a nearby pizza place. We were back in Olympia by 7:00 pm. He had such great memories of that trip that later this summer when he turns 9 he wants to take a couple of friends on that same trip. If you are going carless, Portland is very easy. Olympia is lovely and very walkable too. You can catch a bus from the train station -or the greyhound station is located right downtown. The waterfront, farmer’s market and capitol campus are all walking distance from downtown. There is also the DASH system which is a free 10-minute bus service that circulates through downtown. You can take a boat tour of south Puget Sound (electric boats!) or rent kayaks. There are several bed and breakfasts in walking distance of downtown, in addition to many hotels.
