Well spring is finally here, well sort of…A good dumping of snow yesterday and spitting a little this morning with temps in the 30’s. It’s supposed to be short lived with weather back to normal hopefully by the weekend. Spring in the Rockies, got to love it!
Despite the return to winter like conditions, birds have been arriving and the Sandhill Cranes have been awesome in the Helena Valley close to where I live. More here this year than usual and lots of great action. It’s exciting each year to see what new shots I can come up with and trying to find new and creative ways to capture such an amazing bird.

Jason- great images. How long does the migration last in the Helena area and are there any peak congregation areas or refuges you know of for viewing? Thanks-

Hi Paul, we have some nesting Cranes nearby that will be here throughout the summer. There are some good spots nearby such as Lake Helena Wildlife Management area. Also I usually have good luck in the Ovando valley throughout the summer as well.
