Freeheelin’ was the theme for today. I peeled my butt of the chair which is now perfectly formed to my backside and finally went skiing! And the snow we have in Montana right now is better than I have seen it in a long time. It certainly would be a very understandable and acceptable reason to have a sudden illness come on today and not make it into work. It’s that good.
I decided to take a camera along with me today and practice some motion blur and different angle shots of myself while skiing. I wanted to gain a little bit of speed to create some motion so I so I had to find some more vertical terrain.
Mind you I am on cross country skis here so my turning ability was a little compromised and no poles for someone with my coordination may have been pushing my luck. But I managed to come away with camera intact.
It’s fun to mess around with different shutter speeds and try to find the sweet spot for whatever motion you may be trying to capture. I find that 1/10-1/20 can usually get me in where I want to be. But it depends on how fast your subject and background are moving.
It really takes some experimenting. I seem to be stuck on motion blur lately. I think at least for me it tends to lend some artistic expression to your subject and can turn an otherwise dull scene into something with a little more character.
So my lesson for today was-If all else fails, at least I got to go skiing!
