Paradise Valley

Montana Photography Paradise Valley

Last night I was down near Yellowstone National Park when I was able to capture these incredible storm clouds that rolled into the Paradise Valley at sunset. There was no time to set up a tripod so I had to shoot at some higher ISOs to maintain a fast enough shutter speed while hand holding. This shot was taken at ISO 1600 F11 1/250 sec.

You’ve got to love the advancing technology and lower noise processing of the higher ISOs that are in our cameras these days. I routinely and comfortably shoot at ISO 1600 when I have to and up to 6400 when in a pinch now. Not only has the better sensor quality helped, but also the improved  noise reduction algorithms in software have made a big difference as well.

Yellowstone Glamping

Yellowstone Glamping Lighting

I was out photographing a job yesterday for a Glamping client down near Yellowstone when we had a heck of storm roll in.
When you get lemons, make lemonade! Actually I find heading out when the weather is bad makes for some of the best images, adding a bit more drama. Just don’t want to use that tripod as a lighting rod!

Winter Mallard & New Blog

Here’s a shot I liked of a Mallard coming in for a touchdown in a beautiful winter storm. This time of year I really enjoy being able to shoot when we have some falling snow. It makes for such great atmosphere in the photographs and always adds a little drama.

So you may have noticed the blog has changed a little. No longer is it “Montana Photo”. Decided to mix things up a bit and as always with the new year, I like to try and spruce things up around here with a change of scenery. I’ve also been interested in seeing what you would like to see more of. My goal is to make this blog more interesting and content rich for those of you interested in photography and also continue to share my images with you. I’ve posted a poll with some different suggestions. Feel free to let me know what you think!
