Windmill

Montana Western Windmill

Montana Windmill. Canon 7d, 500mm f4L IS.  ISO 160   f5.6   1/1000sec

Here’s a shot from this afternoon taken out in central Montana. “Will not be punctured by hunters’ bullets or boys’ guns” because “ringing the bell with ordinary small caliber rifle will not pierce the Monitor case.” This was Monitor Windmill’s claim that their iron gearbox was built like a tank and could not be destroyed. Looks like it’s been thoroughly tested.

This photo was taken just a few days back right after we had a whopper of storm roll through Montana, bringing a fair amount of snow and some much colder weather. The temperature when I took this was well below zero and not the most comfortable or convenient shooting conditions. But with the weather, comes great benefits. When rough weather comes, it usually lends interesting or dramatic touches to a scene. Because of the ice and mist hanging in the sky, the light and the sky added a nice touch to the frozen windmill.

That’s me trying to figure out how I can come up with enough money for a plane ticket to Hawaii…

Helena Sunset

Here’s a pic taken near sundown yesterday just outside of Helena. With our new addition in our family, my schedule seems to be a bit wacky lately and I’m finding myself sneaking in my photos where I can get them. I seem to be becoming more of a nocturnal photographer this last week or two, which goes nicely with not sleeping:) I have also discovered my long neglected friend caffeine again and hopefully I’ll be able to trudge my way through some more blog postings.

Seriously though, life is good, spring is here, and I’m excited to see what this summer has in store for Montana. Hope everyone is getting out and enjoying our 70+ weather and getting some good pics!
